WayCo Softball League

History

Entering our third season, the WayCo Softball League is made up of Wayland high school students and young adults who play softball for fun. As graduates of Wayland High School Class of 2006, Dan Burgess, Dan Hogan, Joe Dorr, and Connor Hanlon organized their friends into four teams in an effort to create an exciting way to spend their summer nights.

Summer 2007

In its first season, 80 area players signed up for the league’s four teams. The league was featured in the Sports Section of the
Wayland Town Crier. At season’s end, we had both a home run derby and an All-Star Game. This final event was well attended by family and friends of the players and included a cookout.

Summer 2008
Participation more than doubled and a new location at the Cochituate Ballfield helped increase the fan base. With 170 Wayland residents on 10 teams, the season proved to be a success on many levels. Local buisnesses donated food, beverages, and thier time to the league. The fields became a gathering place for many in the neighborhood and kept the ballpark lights on all summer.
